Done with Debt.

In our house, we've taken the stand that we are DONE WITH DEBT. We have been using Dave Ramsey's baby steps to attack our debt with a vengeance.  We've gotten rid of some student loans, a bank loan, credit cards, and now have a paid off car. If you are looking for motivation, the Dave Ramsey podcast is free.  He has written several best selling books that are available at the library.

I am currently a long term substitute in a district.  In all honesty, with the pandemic and knowing that my school contract will wrap up in June, a lot of discussion was had about how to proceed.  We decided to split what used to be used for debt reduction 50/50.  50% went to our savings and 50% to debt.

We're still working on paying off that second vehicle and more student loans.  That being said, we've decided that once the vehicles are both 100% paid off, we're targeting retirement savings WHILE attacking the student loans. This is not 100% in alignment with Dave Ramsey.  Some might call it Dave-ish.

I've loved using a combination of Dave Ramsey fierce budgeting with the Budget Mom's budget by paycheck method.  (Check her out on Youtube and Instagram!)  I have melded these into a google sheet to budget each paycheck BEFORE the paycheck comes in.

Payday feels like Christmas morning.  I see the numbers, adjust the sheet, and send all the money away.  All those dollars had a job. As their diligent manager, I let them on their way to do their job ASAP.

This has worked very well for our family.  We're getting close to the second car being completely ours.

My next personal learning goal - understanding my pension.
